Three coordinated components: implant, abutment and crown

The placement of dental implants combined with E-max crowns restores a complete, aesthetic and lasting smile thanks to the advanced technologies of modern dentistry.

The crown restores the visible part, the abutment provides the connection and the implant replaces the root. The choice of an E.max ceramic depends on the aesthetic goal, the position and the masticatory forces.

  • Prosthetic plan guiding the position of the implant
  • Material chosen according to aesthetics and constraints
  • Gum profile and occlusion kept under control

The benefits

  • Replacement of a missing tooth and restoration of weakened teeth according to the assessment
  • Natural appearance achieved through a ceramic chosen according to the indication
  • Metal-free ceramic possible for certain aesthetic restorations
  • Planning that clearly separates implant, abutment and crown
  • Choice of the material adapted to the tooth, the occlusion and the aesthetics
  • Aesthetic and functional improvement according to the treated teeth
  • Traceability of the implant, the abutment and the prosthetic material
  • Maintenance and repairs possible depending on the prosthetic system

Contraindications

  • Infection, cavities or active periodontal disease to treat before the project
  • Insufficient bone volume possibly requiring a graft or a sinus lift

What the practitioner assesses

Bone volume and condition of the tissues around the site

Space available for the abutment and the crown

Shade, smile zone, occlusion and bruxism

The treatment process

  1. Clinical, implant and prosthetic assessment

Examination of the teeth and gums, cone beam scan, analysis of the occlusion, the bone volume and the existing restorations. Preservable teeth and more conservative alternatives are evaluated.

  2. Treatment plan and choice of materials

The plan distinguishes the teeth to preserve, those to restore with a crown and the missing teeth requiring an implant. The material of each crown is chosen individually.

  3. Implant placement when necessary

The implant is placed under local anaesthesia according to the planning. A graft can be performed at the same time or in a separate stage. The stability obtained determines whether a provisional restoration is possible.

  4. Osseointegration and prosthetic phase

A healing period of several months is generally necessary before the final restoration. The abutment, the impressions and the try-ins are performed once the implant and the tissues are sufficiently stable.

  5. Final crown and maintenance

The final crown is tried in then cemented or screwed depending on the system used. The occlusion, the contacts, the aesthetics and the access for cleaning are checked. Follow-up includes maintenance of the implants, the gums and the restorations.

Technology and materials

Digital impression and crown design

Digital scanning helps to check the contacts and the profile of the restoration. The final material is confirmed according to the situation and may differ from E.max if the constraints require it.

The implant system is selected according to each patient’s clinical situation.

Frequently asked questions

Is E.max suitable for every implant crown?

No. The area, the available thickness, the type of abutment and the mechanical constraints influence the choice. Another ceramic may be preferable.

Are the crown and the implant placed together?

A provisional restoration is sometimes possible early on, but the definitive crown is generally made after healing has been confirmed.
