Sinus lift
A sinus lift increases the height of bone available in the posterior part of the upper jaw, where the sinus descends and where the bone is often too thin to receive an implant. The sinus floor is raised and a bone substitute is placed under the membrane.
Duration
Surgery often 1 to 2 hours; a stay of 7 to 8 days when implants are placed.
Recovery
Swelling, tenderness and nosebleeds are possible for several days.
Results
Crowns considered 5 to 7 months after the operation, depending on healing.

Contraindications
- Chronic sinusitis or active sinus infection
- Untreated periodontal disease or dental infection
- Uncontrolled diabetes or unstabilised general disease
- Smoking, which markedly increases the risk of failure.
The treatment process
Clinical assessment and cone beam scan
Clinical examination and cone beam scan to measure the height of bone under the sinus, and to locate the membrane, any septa and the condition of the sinus cavity.
Choice of technique according to the available bone height
Depending on the remaining height, the elevation is performed by the crestal approach, through the implant site, or by the lateral approach when the gain required is greater.
Elevation of the sinus floor and placement of the bone substitute
The sinus membrane is carefully lifted and the bone substitute is placed in the space created. A tear in the membrane can lead to the operation being interrupted and postponed.
Healing and check of the volume obtained
The grafted volume turns into bone over the months. An imaging check verifies the height obtained before the next stage is considered.
Placement of the implants, then the final prosthesis
The implants are placed once the volume is sufficient, then the prosthesis is made after osseointegration. Check-up visits and rigorous hygiene determine the long-term result.
